The Peoples Oakland Pride 2020 Presents The Ones You’ve Been Waiting For Art Exhibition Made with 100% Brown & Black Magic By The People, For The People Grand Reception: September 7th, 2020 @ 3pm Queer Arts Center, 3411 Lakeshore Ave This event is both Digital and LIVE in living color. If attending in person, please observe Social Distancing protocol and wear a mask at ALL TIMES. The exhibit will be available digitally via 360* Virtual Tour. This event is possible due to community support, demand and need for SAFE SPACES that honor the work, life, and legacy of Queer, Trans, Black & Indigenous led PEOPLE POWER. We believe in a world that is built BY AND FOR THE PEOPLE founded on love, community trust, interdependence and mutual aid - built without of fear, without bootlooking, kissassing, greed or capitalism. The Peoples Oakland Pride is one example of how the new world we need can be a reality here, now and TODAY. This is a SACRED space created by BROWN & BLACK MAGIC focused on collective healing and empowerment and WILL BE respected as such! Allies are welcome to attend. All donations will go directly toward the #AllBlackLivesMatter Mural Fund: https://www.gofundme.com/f/allblacklivesmattermural The Grand Reception of The Peoples Oakland Pride Art Show will coincide with the GRAND OPENING of the East Bay's QUEER ARTS HEALING CENTER, which will celebrate the Mural Unveiling of our first artist in residence @gaia.wxyz, showcase the new home of our permanent living altar made in honor of ALL black life, lead and co-created by @on.mommas and @ceremony.mavee, and show case art work from over 20 QTBIPOC underground creatives pushing culture forward with their genius, creativity, and BROWN & BLACK MAGIC thru covid-19 and beyond. Altar offerings like plants, incense, candles and crystals are welcome and encouraged. WITH LOVE THE PEOPLES OAKLAND PRIDE About We Are The Ones: We Are The Ones We’ve Been Waiting For is a collective of community-based artists creating at the margins for cultural r/evolution. Known fo their fundraiser dance parties, bi-monthly radio broadcast, and creative support services, We Are The Ones is empowering community through Creative Resistance - using art, music, and come-unity engagement as transformative tools for social change. We Are The Ones works to liberate the creative spirits of The People and explore the impacts of genuine self expression rooted in authenticity, love and liberation. They co-create to build people power and promote cultural equity, reclaiming and radicalizing resources lost to poverty, racism, and social marginalization. Since the formation of We Are The Ones in December 2018, they have organized and hosted over 30 events - booking and collaborating extensively with over 150 QTBIPOC artists on a local and international level. As of August 2020, they have raised over $30,000 in emergency funds for community in need, provided creative support services to over 30 queer and trans creatives of color, and have been published in 16 popular publications with a nationwide audience including Afropunk, East Bay Express, KQED, HIV Plus Magazine, Advocate Magazine, The Fader, and Billboard.com. About The Peoples Oakland Pride THE 9th ANNUAL PEOPLE’s OAKLAND PRIDE CREATIVE ARTS + FILM FEST, a 16-day cinematic and artistic celebration of LGBTQIA+ Pride, taking place August 30th-September 14th through interactive online events and physically distanced celebrations - including a free virtual run, a virtual village, ball competition, art exhibits, workshops, a drive-in movie night, concerts, open mics, 2 dance mini-confrences, theatrical performances, film screenings and more! Oakland, California, August 30, 2020 — From August 30 to September 14th, Spectrum Queer Media, The Queer Healing Arts Center, We Are The Ones We’ve Been Waiting For and Transgender Gender-variant and Intersex Justice Project (TGIJP) invite everyone to participate in The 9th Annual People’s Oakland Pride Creative Arts + Film Fest. This popular grassroots creative arts and wellness celebration continues to authentically uplift the entire LGBTQIA+ community. Founded by Black Trans/GNC community members, the Festival has grown over the past 9 years and has attracted over 10,000 attendees. Presented by a collective of over 50 grassroots community organizations and community organizers, the fest continues to be available FREE + by donation. This year, the fest will unfold both digitally and in a limited number of PPE-equipped, safely physical-distanced outdoor venues.
